Module: Support shortening
According to the new DIN 18008, the deflection of a glazing is limited to 1/100 of the unsupported length and required a minimum glass installation depth of 10 mm. When load acting on the plate deforms this in the middle and thus reduces the glass installation depth to the edge. This process is referred as support shortening.
The module calculates the decrease of the glass installation depth determined at each load case and assess whether, despite exceeding the 1/100 deflection the required glass installation depth is still given in the deformed state. If the stability condition, the 1/100th-requirement can be neglected and possibly thinner glass can be installed. However, this applies only for vertical glazing.
